Moses was going about his normal duties-which is keeping his father in-law, Jethro’s flock. One day, he left the flocks at the backside of the desert and separated himself to the mountain of God -Horeb. In the course of the separation, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in the form of a flame of fire in the midst of the bush and began to speak to him about his assignment. i.e. What he (Moses) is here on earth to do-his purpose. (see Exodus 3)
Most times, we entangle ourselves with so many things. We get too busy with a lot of things-running helter-skelter and yet never getting pleased with our achievements. This is because we have not sat down or taken a break to commune with God concerning our purpose. We have not availed ourselves to hear from God, to know what He is saying although we may have been talking a lot to Him in our minds.
It is very necessary to separate yourself and talk to your creator, the originator of your life especially when you feel the direction seems so blur. Ask Him questions like ‘What am I here for?’ ‘What do I need to do at this point in my life?’ ‘Where do I need to go and where should I not go?’ We need answers from God to keep us going and so separation; to be with God is very key in our lives.
Now, when you read further to verse 10 of the same chapter, you see Moses exchanging words with God after his assignment/purpose has been revealed to him. Moses now begins to tell God (who created him and knows him better than himself about his inabilities to carry out his God-given assignment. Then God assures him of His unabated presence throughout the execution of his assignment. (verse 12). How nice it is to obey God! When you walk in obedience with God, He’s got your back. He strengthens you when you’re weak, shows up when everything seems to be turning against you and makes a way where it seems there is no way. All you have to do is to constantly rely on Him.
After the assurance from God, Moses still argues with God about how he fears that the people He is being sent to (Israelites) will not regard or accept his personality, concept, product or idea. But the intriguing part to me is when God uses what was in the hands of Moses to affirm or show him that He (God) was not going to leave him alone nor forsake him.
God: “What is that in thine hand?”
Moses: “A rod”. (see Exodus.4:2).
God made Him to turn that rod into a serpent and reversed it again just to prove to him of His awesome power. And I tell you, it was this same rod that Moses later used to perform all the miraculous signs and wonders before Pharaoh in the land of Egypt.
What do you have in your hand that you are undermining? What idea have you conceived that you are belittling or have so much doubt about? Has God revealed something to you that your eyes have only opened to its negative or impossible side? Are you now remembering your background, educational status, failures in the past, marital/financial status? My dear, all you have to do is to take that bold step in faith and in obedience to God’s word and everything will fall into their right places. When you hear from God and act on it, what men rejected begins to receive acceptance.
Yet again, Moses raised a concern about his lack of eloquence or his speech inabilities. To this, the Lord said unto him, He is the One that makes and unmakes, and He had already prepared everything he will need to execute the assignment to completion.
When you walk in obedience to God to accomplish your purpose or fulfill the idea He has given you, you automatically walk in His favour where you lack nothing.
“And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go ye shall not go empty” (Exodus 3:21).
When you act according to God’s will to bring forth that solution/idea He has embedded in you, He releases the right people and the right opportunities to help you bring it to accomplishment. So that where you fall short, where you are incapable, where you lack words, He appoints unto you, your Aaron to become your spokesman to bridge that gap to your success. (verse 14).
When you begin to make use of what is in your hand, God will cause people to accept you. Those who initially did not believe in your dream begin to embrace it. The market will be opened up to you and people will start to buy into your product and even recommend to others.
“And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs (with the rod that was in Moses’ hand when God met him in the bush) in the sight of the people. And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped”. – Exodus 4: 30-31
My dear, you have something in your hands. You have an idea or a solution men are waiting for. Don’t despise it no matter how little it may seem to you. Forget about what you call inability or lack on your part. Forgo those doubts and fears of yours. Open your eyes to the brighter side, to the possibilities around you and take that step to put it to use and get ready for God’s surprise.
Know that everything you need to fulfill that assignment, to pursue that dream/idea, whatever you are looking for to bring that solution to bear has already been made available to you by God. All you need to do is to make that move or reach out for it. If you seem lost, separate yourself. Go back to God your creator; speak to Him and He will clearly direct you on what to do.
It is my prayer that God will grant us the grace and ability to make use of what we have in order to manifest our purpose.
