There was an influencial, great and spiritual woman in the Bible who was from Shunem. This Shunammite was very sensitive that she could tell which Prophet is a holy man of God or not. Out of her sensitivity, she was able to persuade and attract a great Prophet of God, Elisha to be associated with her family; and lo and behold, this Prophet was the one carrying the solution to the problem of her family. (Read 2 Kings 4: 8- 37).
The Bible says this woman constrained Elisha to dine with them whenever he (including his servant Gehazi) pass by Shunem. She just didn\’t end there but went ahead to discuss with her husband in putting up a chamber for Elisha so he can take rest or lay down and meditate any time he is in Shunem.
How spiritual or sensitive are you as an entrepreneur, C. E. O. or vision carrier. Could it be that you are not seeing the progress in what you are into because you are not sensitive enough to perceive the right people God bring on your way to help grow the business or materialize the vision. Are you going the opposite direction against the path God is showing you to tread because of canality or lack of sensitivity?
John 6: 63 – \”It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profited nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life\”.
May the Lord help us to be sensitive to know the right clients who will recommend or resell our products or the right people to contact or employ for the advancement of our vision.
It was when Elisha was laying down, after the Shunammite woman had made him comfortable that he began to enquire about the woman\’s need. It will interest you to know that this woman was showing this such great kindness towards the man of God in return for nothing. And this is what most of us Christians can\’t do. We cannot wholeheartedly serve or give unto God. We serve Him like granting Him a loan. I am doing this for you Lord because I need to see \’so and so\’ in my life at this point in time. It is okay to place a demand on a service, but it should not be a routine of showing appreciation because you have received a breakthrough or giving because you need to see some results or testimony coming through for you.
It took Gehazi, the servant of Elisha to tell Elisha what the Shunammite woman actually needs. Another sensitive person who was not just following his master for following sake but rather paying attention to details so he can always be there for the Prophet when he needed him or fetch him information he was clueless to. Upon Gehazi giving Elisha the information with details or with the circumstances surrounding it (i.e. her husband being old and so all other things being equal, will not be able to bear a child), that Elisha prophesied to the woman about her getting a baby in a year\’s time ; and it surely came to pass.
If you are an employee or following a leader, don\’t just follow blindly, don\’t work anyhow. Get the leader\’s or the company\’s interest at heart and God will also deliver into your hands your befitting portion.
Another intriguing part is in verses 18 and 19. When the child or the baby of the Shunammite woman had grown and gone to work with his father and fell ill, that the father couldn\’t help, couldn\’t stand the pressure, didn\’t know what to do to solve the child\’s problem. He asked that the boy be sent to his mother. And lo and behold the mother knew how to handle the situation, how to manage her composure, whom to contact and get solution.
What kind of a woman or wife are you? Are you able to confront and manage situations that come your way or the least thing, then you are fretting. Are you reliable, can your husband count on you for answers or you only create the problems?
Prov. 14: 1 \”Every wise woman buildeth her house : but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands\”.
May God grant us the strength, grace and wisdom to build our homes and not to tear them down with our deeds.
The Shunammite reached out to Elisha, a man whom God had used to give her a son for a solution. Her kindness or her art of giving has broken protocol for her. She needed not to wait till Sabbath, join queues, book appointment or follow procedures before seeing the Prophet Elisha. So before she even got to Elisha on Mount Carmel (verse 25), the man of God asked Gehazi to run and meet her and asked if all is well not just with her but also everything connected to her. And amidst the circumstances she finds herself in, she answered, it is well. The talk of a woman of faith. How would such a person not see results. Truly, her son was restored back to life at the end.
Always focus on the results/solution you want to see happen in your life. Do not let the circumstances surrounding your life, the situation you are going through now push you down the drain. Everything is possible if we put our minds to getting it done with God being our strength.
